Damariscotta is a town in Lincoln County, Maine, United States with its population at 2.041 during the 2000 census. It is located approximatley 53 miles northeast from Portland, ME and 10 minutes north of Wiscasset, ME. A popular tourist resort area, the towns of Damariscotta and Newcastle are linked by the Main Street bridge over the Damariscotta River, forming the "Twin Villages." The name Damariscotta is an Indian name meaning "river of little fish".

EDUCATION School Union # 74 is located in midcoast maine and serves six communities in central Lincoln County: Bremen, Bristol, Damariscotta, Newcastle, Nobleboro, and South Bristol. There are seven school boards, each comprised of three to seven elected members, and a Union Board composed of the 26 members from the local boards. The Union Board employs the superintendent who oversees the operation of four Kindergarten through grade eight elementary schools and the tuitioning of all secondary school students. The school union serves a total of about 1350 pupils in 2007-08, . The combined annual budgets of the four schools and the secondary tuition exceed $15 million.
